Laird Thermal Systems designs and manufactures some of the world’s most reliable
Benefits for Designers
Engineers must take thermal management into account at an early stage of the product design process. Simple thermal management solutions, such as adding a fan or heat sink, are no longer sufficient to meet performance requirements. A standard thermoelectric cooler allows the designer to start with a basic set of building blocks that mate fans and peltier modules to heat exchangers.
Benefits of using a standard thermoelectric assembly:
- Shorten product development time by starting at thermolectric assembly level instead of peltier module level
- Minimize costs by utilizing components that are already established in the supply chain
- Long history of proven infield performance in the market
- Product improvements through market evaluation
Advantages of Thermoelectric Assemblies 2
Thermoelectric cooling offers several advantages over other cooling technologies. For example, conventional fan trays do not cool below ambient temperatures and require an air exchange with the outside environment.
On the other hand, Thermoelectric assemblies can cool to well below ambient while protecting electronics inside enclosures from outside contaminants, and also minimize moisture exposure from the outside environment. Thermoelectric assemblies also offer precise temperature control, accurate to within 0.01˚C under steady-state conditions.
Advantages over conventional compressor-based systems:
- Compact form factor
- Less weight
- Lower noise and vibration
- Flexible to mount in any orientation
- Environmentally friendly, because they use no CFDs and are RoH compliant
- Almost maintenance
- Lower total cost of ownership
Laird Thermal Systems offers the industry’s broadest range of thermoelectric cooler assemblies. All products are controlled to meet strict process control standards and pass/fail criteria.
The standard product portfolio covers a wide range of cooling capacities with compact form factors and high coefficient of performance. Standard operating voltages are 12 und 24 VDC, with 48 VDC available on some models. The standard products use heat transfer mechanisms that absorb and dissipate heat by convection, conduction, or through liquid heat exchangers.
Laird Thermal Systems manufacturing sites are ISO 9001:2008 certified and products are designed to meet cooling requirements of many thermal management applications in the medical, analytical, industrial and telecom markets.
Supercool Series
The SuperCool Series of thermoelectric cooling assemblies is available in air-to-air, direct-to-air, and liquid-to-air versions. They are designed to deliver temperature stability for small chambers used in medical diagnostics or sample storage compartments in analytical instrumentation.
Featuring a unique hot side air heat sink design, the SuperCool thermoelectric assembly dissipates heat more quickly and efficiently than other heat exchanger technologies. These units operate on 24 VDC, deliver 166 to 202 Watts and are designed for indoor lab use environments. Custom configurations available upon request.

Power Cool Series
The Power Cool Series offers the widest cooling capacity range, from 20 up to 283 Watts. These thermoelectric cooler assemblies come in an air-to-air and direct-to-air model, using impingement flow to dissipate heat on the hot side. The cold side heat transfer mechanism can absorb heat using convection (heat sink and fan), conduction (cold plate), or liquid (heat exchanger) means.
This product series is available in 12 oder 24 VDC configurations and for 100-Watt systems and higher, 48 VDC is optional. The Power Cool Series thermoelectric assemblies is designed for indoor use in medical, analytical, and industrial applications.

Tunnel Series
The Tunnel Series of thermoelectric cooler assemblies uses a patented, high-performance cross flow technology that maximizes heat transfer when pulling air through a heat exchanger. Compared to thermoelectric coolers using traditional impingement flow, this technique reduces the number of required airflow paths.
This product series is available in 12 oder 24 volt configurations and can cool by either convection or conduction means.

Outdoor Cooler Series
The Outdoor Cooler Series is designed for cooling and heating electronic cabinets in outdoor environments. The units are tested to withstand harsh outdoor conditions such as salt fog, wind-driven rain, high temperature exposure, dust and earthquakes. The Outdoor Cooler Series offers a cooling capacity from 100 to 250 Watts and is available in 24 und 48 VDC configurations.
Bi-polar thermostatic control is available as standard option, enabling heating and cooling to specific temperature set points.

Cascade Series
The Cascade Series of thermoelectric coolers is designed to rapidly reach colder temperatures, which is required in various lab instruments. The peltier device is a custom designed multistage cascade that achieve a high cooling capacity (Qc) at high temperature differentials (ΔT). The cold side mechanism can transfer heat using convective (sink and fan) or conductive (cold plate) means. The Cascade Series is available in 12 or 24 volt configurations.

Liquid Series
The Liquid Series thermoelectric assembly uses a liquid heat exchanger to cool or heat a coolant flowing. The The heat exchanger is designed for a recirculating system and needs to be accompanied by a pump. The heat dissipation side comes as convection (Liquid to Air), conduction, (Direct to Liquid) or as liquid (Liquid to Liquid).
To increase heat transfer, turbulators are mounted into the liquid channels of the heat exchanger. However, for higher liquid flow rates these may be removed to minimize pressure drop. Custom configurations are available, however MOQ applies.

MCR Series Recirculating ghermoelectric Chillers
MRC Series is a bench top re-circulating chiller which control temperature of a coolant in a liquid circuit. The coolant is re-circulated using a pump with high mean time between failures (MTBF). The heat-exchanger absorbs the heat from the coolant, which is dissipated through high density heat sinks equipped with brand name fans.
The peltier modules are custom designed to ensure long life operation. The unit is equipped with an easy-to-use digital controller which can control temperature of a liquid circuit at the outlet from -12 to 40 °C.
